President's Message

One of our goals this year, which I think we reached in an amazing way, was making Rotary’s public image a priority. We, in so many ways, put the Wellington Rotary name out there: from our ads to news information stories, Facebook, our web site, bottle return depot, Family Day free soup/chili, electronic recycling, maple syrup, dinner dance, golf tournament to the Diners and Duffers books. So many of our members supply goods and services that ensure our successes and that our Rotary brand remains visible, strong, entertaining, and above all “Service Above Self”… the Magic of Rotary.

All of the above has proven that our club is a strong Community Rotary Leader. We understand who we are and how we make a difference as people of action. This only makes us stronger and more committed. This also helps us in attracting members, volunteers, and donors.

My Thank You Corner
So many individuals do so much to make our Wellington Rotary club whole.

  Phyo – Leader extraordinaire
Trudy – Treasurer with knowledge and strong work ethic
Howard – Accomplished financier; no tasks too small or too large
Jacques – First-year secretary with a quick eye and efficiency
Margo – Our dependable legal expert

Pod Speakers:
Tim – Never say die; Master of all
Colin – Early bird and skillful organizer
  Jacques – Efficient and knowledgeable
Howard – Always patient and leads by example

Prayers:
Rev. David Hawkins – Our in-house Minister and prayer leader in charge of great     weather for our events.

Spelling Bee:
Dawn – A class act who really cares for the kids
  Trudy & Gregor – Our “In-House Bees”

Founding Members who I can always count on for direction:
Ted – The epitome of Service Above Self
John – When John speaks, all listen
  Dawn – Quiet, dependable leader
Pierre – Always gives me positive information and direction

Legal:
Margo – Our in-house council; always ready to point us in the right direction

Health:
David – Spent numerous hours ensuring we were leaders in our community health    strategies

Student Exchange:
Martha – Volunteered to take the role on with able assistance from Lyn and              Christine. A partnership with the Picton Club is imminent.

New Ideas and Weekly Speakers:
David Smith handed the file over to Dave Robinet and because of these two         dedicated Rotarians, our speakers have been first-class and informative.

My Personal Secretary:
Cathy has ensured that my President’s messages were grammatically correct (for     the most part), made sense and were on point. She also designed and printed the   thank you cards for our speakers.

I am physically spent just thinking of everything accomplished by our club. The dedication and work ethic boggles the mind.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Roger Tessier President 2024/2025

On Second Thought: I came, I saw, I forgot what I was doing, retraced my steps and got lost on the way back. Now I have no idea.

Last Week: Monica Alyea, Matt Smith and Art Knight (PEFAC)

Rotary meeting minutes June 10, 2025
Notes by Lyn McGowan

President Roger called the meeting to order at 7:05, with 36 Rotarians present and 6 guests – 3 from PEFAC, 1 from the Rotary Club of Picton, accompanied by 2 visitors from India.

Robynne introduced the guest speaker from PEFAC, Monica Alyea, who is vice-chair of the PEFAC board. Monica was accompanied by Matt Smith, Finance Director and Art Knight, President of the PEFAC board.

Monica reported that PEFAC has been a non-profit since 2005. She expressed appreciation for the recent donation from our club, which helps to ensure anyone who wants to join PEFAC but can’t afford it will be able to attend. They currently have 15 supplemented memberships, which may be individuals or entire families. They pay what they can and the support is entirely confidential.

Monica led us through a series of fun and engaging physical exercises while sharing tidbits about PEFAC:
- PEFAC had a high of just under 1200 members in 2024
- PEFAC has an annual operating budget of approx. $900,000; 93% of that budget comes from membership and program fees
- In 2024 there were over 91,500 visits to the PEFAC spaces; 96% were for active physical engagement
- In 2025 taxpayers will provide 7.7% or $70,000 of the operating budget; PEFAC will pay back just under $50,000 for taxes, water and sewer services

Roger invited Siva, one of the guests from India, to share his story. Siva is a member of a Rotary club in southern India that has 140 members. Last year, his club constructed 60 houses! Siva is the Administrator of the Rotary Fellowship devoted to Travel and Hosting, which he will be representing at the upcoming Rotary International Convention in Calgary. In addition, he will be travelling to several cities in Canada, including Vancouver and Kelowna, where he will be hosted by local Rotarians. For more information on the International Travel and Hosting Fellowship – which sounds like a fascinating way to met Rotarians and see the world on a budget - check out their website at https://www.ithf.org

There were no birthdays this week, but two anniversaries – Norm and Marilyn Dodgson, married 40 years on June 14th and Dave and Mary Robinet, married 52 years on June 16th.

Shawn’s number was drawn in the 50/50 draw but, alas, he did not pick the ace of spades.

The 2025 Wellington Rotary Golf Day took place on June 13. It was a breezy, sunny day, about 72 golfers had great fun on the course at Wellington on the Lake followed by dinner at the Legion

Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say, and do:

        1.  Is it the TRUTH?
        2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
        3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
             FRIENDSHIPS?
        4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all
             concerned?

Rotary Song

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
