President's Message

Tis the season … many folks are out visiting local shops, or attending special Christmas markets … people are happy, relaxed, enjoying life, almost as if the pandemic was behind us.   Many folks are also very giving within their community at this time of year. The StoreHouse Foodbank is busy preparing Christmas hampers for the families in need … the Angel Tree Program has collected gifts for less-fortunate children … the Salvation Army kettles are in many local grocery stores …and, various Rotarians have stepped up to help the homeless at Belleville United Church and Kate’s Rest, as well as to help deliver plants to residents in care homes.

Wellington Rotary has also stepped up to challenge it’s members and the community to help our fellow Canadians in British Columbia that have been impacted by the catastrophic rains and floods.  The article in the Wellington Times, that is also posted on FaceBook and our website, and was broadcast on the Grapevine on Thursday, has stimulated many donations.  We have collected in excess of $1500 so far, in addition to the $5000 that the Rotary Club has committed to donate thru the Red Cross … and, we will continue to accept donations thru the balance of this week.

Thank you to the Rotary members, Wellingtonians, and other County folks, for being so generous at this time of year.  ’Tis the season.

Last Week:  Rotary Christmas Dinner

Our annual Rotary Christmas dinner event was re-instated after a hiatus last year due to the pandemic.  The event was very well attended without any issues.  Of course, all the participants were fully vaccinated and followed all the required pandemic safety protocols.  We gathered at the Legion around 5:30 p.m. for cocktails, and dinner started with Grace from our very own David Hawkins. We then had a delicious roast beef dinner prepared by Bill & Marnie from Wheelhouse View Catering.  Dinner was followed by our traditional "gift" exchange whereby each Rotarian brought a token gift, typically trivial and fun, and we drew lots to see who gets the next gift (and potentially exchange it for a better gift previously drawn).  Bill Hurst, who had just returned from a longer than expected trip to B.C. earlier in the afternoon, was the lucky winner with the choice of last and best gift.  Demonstrating a true Rotary spirit of Service Above Self, he took the most coveted gift, which was a Maple Leaf T-shirt, and gave it to Linda Donnville who really really wanted the T-shirt earlier in the draw.  For more pictures, please visit:

Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say, and do:
        1.  Is it the TRUTH?
        2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
        3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
             FRIENDSHIPS?
        4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all
             concerned?

Rotary Song

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
