President's Message

As I write, I am looking out on a gray and rainy day, but am thankful that at least it isn’t snowing. I do try to always find a bright side.

If you think spring has been a very long time coming this year, you’d be right. You’ll recall we had a number of teasingly warm days in March. In fact, the average high temperature for March in the County was 8 degrees, which is double the historical average of 4. The warmest day was March 11 when we hit 17 degrees. Historically, there’s been an average of 24 cm of snow in March – this year, only 9 cm. But in April, we had nine days when the mercury dipped below zero – four of them in the last week.  I don’t generally like to wish for time to pass more quickly, but I am SO ready for spring.

There are a few things coming up in the Rotary calendar of neighbouring clubs that may interest you:
  • The Picton Rotary Annual Lilac Ride will be on Sunday, May 26. You can sign up for a 25, 50 or 100 km ride and there will be a BBQ at noon. Early Bird Registration is open until May 1, for $70; or $75 up to the day of the ride. Full tax receipt will be provided.

  • The Quinte Rotary Music Festival (QRMF) Concert of the Stars will be held on May 1 at the Maranatha Church. The purpose of the QRMF, which is a joint project of three Rotary clubs – Belleville, Trenton and Quinte Sunrise – is to help young people develop their musical talent.
Closer to home, the installation of Accessibility Beach Mats at Wellington Rotary Beach, currently scheduled for May 9. The mats have already arrived and are currently stored in Ken’s garage.

And, finally, our first ever Wellington Rotary Community Yard Sale, which is coming up on Saturday, May 25.

Lots to look forward to!

Yours In Rotary,

Lyn McGowan
President, Rotary Club of Wellington

Rotary Song

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
