                                              President's Message

Visit our Online Auction website and have a look around. Our online  auction starts this Tuesday September 15th, and runs for a month to October 15, 2020.

Planning for the Memorial Garden dedication is under way. I have been in contact with all of the spouses of our honoured members; and per my email to the Club, Sunday October 4th at 2:00 pm is the date of the event since we’ll have a better chance of suitable weather for an outdoor event. More details to follow shortly.

The Club’s $100,000 cheque presentation to the PECM Hospital Foundation on Friday Sept 11 went extremely well. There was a nice turnout of Rotarians and their spouses, plus other notable persons from the PECMH community, including the distinguished Picton Rotarian Leo Finnegan, who had some wonderful words to say about our Club. Many thanks to David Mackinnon (representing the QHC Board) and David Smith who both spoke at the presentation.  Mr. Smith’s speech covered our numerous hospital fundraising initiatives and acknowledged Brian McGowan’s groundwork that lead us into our very successful wine project.

In closing, I wish to express my appreciation and thanks to Nancy and Tim Cox for the generous donation of their dad’s recliner to Larry Elsbury, which Tim and I dropped off last Tuesday. The recliner is almost brand spanking new and a tremendous improvement in comfort and care over the chair that Larry has been using. Below is a shot of Larry enjoying his new chair.

Last Week:
Marcia Wallace (PEC CAO)

Meeting opened by President Howard with 20 members present, plus 8 on Zoom, 5 guests (Bill Pennell, Bill & Karen Hurst, Chris Campeau & Yvonne Buys)  plus presenter Marcia Wallace CAO PEC who was introduced by Liz.

Following on a strong background in government and planning at various levels, Marcia began her job in PEC in time to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic emergency planning and implementation rapidly followed by summer issues resulting from the huge influx of visitors to the County.

As well as preparing an ‘early’ budget for December, Marcia is focusing on tourism management and support for development (in brief). A ‘better’ plan will be developed for development management in the up-coming year.

Marcia fielded questions from both members and guests.

Members filled Bottle Bill’s needs for this wee

Mike Lattner will represent the club for Red Wine launch article in Times and segment on County FM Grapevine.

Discussion of various issues tabled for future Club forum, President Howard closed the meeting at 8.21.

Domaine Darius Wellington Rotary Red Cuvee
Wellington Rotary and Domain Darius winery present
David Gillingham's limited edition Rotary Cuvee 2018.

The idea of a Rotary wine to raise fund for the new hospital building fund was hatched by Past President Brian McGown and winemaker David Gillingham.

The result is David's unique and exquisite blend of Marquette & Petite Pearl.  The Marquette was sourced from Brian & Lyn McGowan's Hollyhill vineyards.  Rotarians hand-picked the Petite Pearl grapes from a vineyard in Waupoos.  100% of sales go to PEC Hospital Foundation.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
        1.  Is it the TRUTH?
        2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
        3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
             FRIENDSHIPS?
        4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
