President's Message

Greetings, fellow Rotarians.

What a week this has been, beginning with the Past President’s Dinner last Tuesday, which was a
thoroughly enjoyable evening, planned and hosted by Past President Trudy. In his final remarks of the
year, President Ken reviewed the Club’s many achievements and thanked DG Iosif for his ongoing
support. He also announced that Wellington Rotary recently received three – that’s right, three – District
awards this year. Well done, all! And a special “well done” to Yvonne, who was selected as this year’s
Rotarian of the Year – Club Treasurer, lead on the Maple Syrup fundraiser, active in the Club’s Wellness
Committee and, most recently, lead on the Canada Day Ribfest. Kudos, Yvonne, well deserved!

Later in the week, many of our Club members prepared for Wellington’s Canada Day festivities in a
variety of ways – shopping for supplies; prepping the ribs, beans and coleslaw; cleaning and decorating
the float; delivering and setting up the tent and barbecues. Then, many of us had fun participating in the
event itself – walking or riding in the parade; handing out candy along the parade route; selling 50/50
tickets in support of the Wellington Storehouse Foodbank; manning the barbecues and serving stations.

Yvonne advises that in addition to being a fun day all around, the Canada Day festivities also proved to
be a good fundraiser for the Club. The 50/50 tickets sold out around noon and the rib dinners by around
1 pm. Well done, everyone, for making this a very successful event to start off the new Rotary year.

Finally, in keeping with recent tradition, your Wellington weather forecast - I wish I could say it will be
all sunny skies but, as your new President, I commit to always telling you the truth even when it isn’t
pretty. There’s going to be some cloud, some rain and some sun, but the good news is there’s no snow
or sleet forecast for the next few days.

Here’s looking forward to a fun and productive year ahead, together!

President, Rotary Club of Wellington

Last Week:  Past President's Dinner, Canada Day Parade, Rotary Ribs

Past President's Dinner:   The 2023 Past President's Dinner to change-over from President Ken to 2023-2024 President Lyn was held on June 27 at Wellington on the Lake. The event was well attended with 52 people (Rotarians and Spouses). Dinner was catered by PEC Picnic.

Past President Trudy Brown was MC for the evening, She presented the Paul Harris Award and Rotary Gavel plaque to Presient Ken

Yvonne Buys was awarded the Rotarian of the Year honours, and then President Ken had the floor for one last time, where he delivered a brilliantly crafted speech.  The podium was then passed on to New President Lyn McGowan (and no, she was not praying for a good presidential year in this picture)

And, a great time was had by all who attended, 52 attendees (Rotarians & Spouses) at Wellington on the Lake hall, catered by Rebecca from PEC Picnic.

Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say, and do:
        1.  Is it the TRUTH?
        2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
        3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
             FRIENDSHIPS?
        4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all
             concerned?

Rotary Song

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
