President's Message

What do you do on a Sunny Saturday morning in Wellington?  You pack up your empties and head for the bottle depot. Well, it seemed like half the town did!!!

I am not really surprised with the turn out, but I am really happy that we had extra staff on hand.

When I turned onto Second St., there was already a lineup of vehicles that spilled onto the road and it wasn’t even 9 am yet.  Thankfully, all of the crew was there ready to go and working early unloading and filling the bins.

We made up a sign and put it on a temporary sandwich board so that people could read it before getting to the unloading area.

It turns out that people really can read and took advantage of staying safe by staying in their vehicles and doing just as we asked.  Thankfully, we had a little extra help as Kim Lee, who lives across the road from the bottle depot came over to help unload.

I think it worked quite well with the process, with the exception of getting backed up.  If you didn’t get your morning workout in, you certainly made up for it working at the depot.  It just shows you, there is more than one way to skin the cat.

It was almost a relief to some people by the looks and smiles on their faces and that laughter that came with it. Needless to say, those that attended were happy that we were open.

To top it off, the vast majority of people donated their empties.. To say the least, it was a very successful day.

President Dave Robinet

Last Week:
Guest Speaker : rescheduled

Guest speaker from the Prince Edward Community theatre was rescheduled due to the COVID-19 closures.

Mike Lattner presented the results of the soft-opening of the Bottle Depot on the previous Saturday.  It was a successful re-opening and helped us re-design our processes to accommodate physical distancing precautions.  The recommendation from the report was to open on Saturdays using the same procedures.

A lively discussion followed. Both the pros and cons of re-opening were discussed.  David McKinnon motioned that the club not re-open until the provincial government gives the  green light to re-open all businesses.  Motion was defeated 8 Yes, 16 No.  Therefore the Bottle Depot will re-open on Saturday May 16,  using the new physical distancing procedures.

Rotary Song Lyrics:

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1.  Is it the TRUTH?
2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
     FRIENDSHIPS?
4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
