President's Message

Saturday was no different than any other Saturday around the Town of Wellington.  No different with the exception that Evan Nash from Wellington Home Hardware had organized a street and beach cleanup day.

We had been waiting for some time for the approval from the County to get into the Rotary Beach to start our annual beach cleanup and this was the time when we could finally make it happen.

Past President Phyo, had organized a group of Rotary volunteers to meet at the beach for 10 am, bringing shovels, brooms, rakes and whatever other devices that might assist them. We were expecting eight to ten people, but word got out to the community, as it does and has in the past. In total, there were 18 people that showed up.

We picked up pieces of plastic, paper, card board and whatever happened to wash up on the shore or was left behind, that might not be welcome.

We used shovels and rakes and gas trimmers along with some good old fashioned labour and got the boardwalk cleaned up in no time.

It goes to show you what a great community we live in and the people in it. It’s so true that Rotary connects the world.

I had several members of the public come up to me and thank the club for organizing the clean up and we even had the potential of a new member talk to me about how he could join.

I want to thank all of our members, family, Friends of Rotary and anyone else that came along to help clean up the beach.

It makes you feel proud to be a Rotarian for all of the things we do that are good.  It doesn’t have to have a monetary value to it. Sometimes it is just the effort that is made to make things better and knowing that your effort is making a difference.

Thank you everyone.

President Dave Robinet

Cynthia is a commercial banking executive at RBC, and is an advocate for the RBC Future Launch program, which empowers Canadian youth for jobs of tomorrow.

50% of today's jobs will require technology and RBC is committing $500Million over 10 years to help prepare youth for the job market, by addressing barriers to jobs today - skills, experience and networking.  RBC has set up one-hour workshops, partnering with Boys & Girls Club, YMCA and other community groups.  For more information please visit the Career Launch program at RBC at https://jobs.rbc.com/ca/en/CareerLaunch.

On other topics,
  • President Dave asked PP Phyo to follow up with the County to see when we might be allowed to access the Wellington Rotary  Beach for a cleanup.
  • There are still about 100 bottles of Rotary wine available for sale at Lacey Estates Winery.  Please put a last push to deplete this inventory so that we can finalize the proceeds of the Rotary white wine initiative.
  • D&D Books - reminder to submit all monies for books sold to date to Ted Nash by next week wo that Treasurer Trudy and tally up the proceeds for this year ending June 30th.

Rotary Song Lyrics:

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1.  Is it the TRUTH?
2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
     FRIENDSHIPS?
4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
