President's Message

After another fun Bottles shift on Saturday where the traffic was steady, the donations were generous and the camaraderie was energizing, I headed over to Consecon to drop off some items at the house for the new Syrian family. The place was abuzz with the final preparations and set-up arrangements for the incoming family. Congratulations to the “Eljasem Team” for all their hard work to make the home warm, comfortable and welcoming.

You may have received an email from the District covering Rotary’s World Understanding & Peace Day being held on February 23, 2021 from 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM Eastern Std. Time. District 7040’s Zoom meeting is part of a worldwide event initiated by District 3232 South India titled "The Sun Never Sets in Rotary". This looks like an interesting event that requires registering in advance at:

In closing, I think the joint meetings we’ve had with Campbellford have been a great success. Not only have we shared great speakers but, last week, we had the opportunity to see how Campbellford runs their meetings so singing O’Canada, toasting Canada and the Queen and saying the Rotary Grace are back in our meeting proceedings.

Last Week:
PDG Marylou Harrison

Campbellford Club President, Rob Pope, opened the meeting with 41 attendees via Zoom. He and President Howard then co-chaired until and after the breakout session.

Guest speaker, Past District Governor, MaryLou Harrison was introduced by Colin who shared her Rotary-relevant biography details.

PDG MaryLou has an impressive background and present involvement in Rotary having previously been a Club President as well as District Governor and member of three clubs in our district, taking other key positions at a number of levels too. She shared her experiences through a presentation called “Adventures in Rotary - All the Places You’ll Go!” This included opportunities for service through travel, both internationally and more locally, as well as the many projects and ways to become involved in the work of Rotary. She showed great enthusiasm, joie-de-vivre and commitment with a talent for bringing diverse areas of experience together in productive ways. She also places great emphasis on the importance of the Rotary Foundation as an engine for forwarding the organisation’s work. Her presentation will be made available on-line. She was thanked by yours truly.

The meeting then split into two club breakout sessions during which Bill’s bottle needs were met for Wed & Sat and Yvonne up-dated our Club on the Maple Syrup Fundraising Project. President Howard announced that a return to the Wellington Legion for meetings will start on March 2nd. Phyo shared his attendance at meetings regarding potential New Initiatives projects and the Rotary Beach cleanup plans.

The joint meeting was closed by President Rob at 8.07.

Picture of the Week

"We can all get along together"...

In these times of isolation and differences of opinions on all subjects from politics to the pandemic, it's good to see that even with the differences, we can all get along.  Pictured here is a dog and a calf being best friends:

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
        1.  Is it the TRUTH?
        2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
        3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
             FRIENDSHIPS?
        4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
