President's Message

On October 6th, we will have our President’s Walk, from the Wellington Community Centre to the Wellington Beach, have refreshments, and walk back to the Centre. Due to our Electronic Waste Recycling Fundraiser that day, which occurs between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., the walk will begin at 3:00 p.m. Those of you who have indicated that you will participate should wear Rotary clothing and hats (15 walkers so far).

Why do a President’s Walk? Why contribute to the Rotary Foundation?
When you contribute to the Rotary Foundation, you are directly supporting Rotary’s work. Your gift helps Rotary to eradicate polio, promote peace, and develop 3rd world countries (dig wells, build schools, supply water filters, to name a few). It also helps Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health and the environment, providing education, and alleviating poverty.

So you see, our dollars impact in so many ways. Please remember that all donations are matched 2 to 1 by the Gates Foundation.

The sign-up sheet was made available to all of you at our meeting on September 24th, and I am very encouraged by your generosity. So far, 15 people have signed up to walk and 26 of you have indicated your contributions to the Foundation. That is 65% of our membership – well done! Tomorrow, I will circulate the sign-up sheet one more time.

Thank you for your dedication to Rotary, to Rotary values, and to the Rotary Foundation. I can’t think of a better Rotary Club in which I would like to be a member.

Roger Tessier
President 2024/2025

On second thought: Instead of a sign that says “Do Not Disturb,” I need one that says “Already Disturbed – Proceed with Caution!”

Last Week: Club Forum

Rotary Club of Wellington, September 24, 2024
Condensed Notes by Phyo Kyi

The meeting was called to order by President Roger at 7:07 am.  30 Rotarians plus 4 on zoom were present.

Bill Pennell provided an insight as to why he joined Rotary.  He's always been involved in community matters since his early days, such as being in a church choir and volunteering at various church functions. After he moved to Wellington, he met Dave Robinet, who invited him to be a guest at the Rotary meeting and he later joined the club.

‘O’ Canada’ was sung. Rev David Hawkins was on zoom, so Pres Roger recited the invocation. Breakfast was served.

Secretary's Report:  Chris Compeau indentified all the correspondence received, including thank you letter from IPPC for our donation, letter from Peter Lockyear asking for suppor for Christmas in the County, thank you from County Kids Reads, thank you from scholarship recipient Hayden, letter from Dave Wallace about the President's walk, etc..

President Roger indicated that we will do our own President's walk from the community centre to the beach on October 6.

Treasurer's Report:  Bill Pennell provided the treasurer's report for the month of August.  Some members would like to see an advanced copy of the report prior to the meeting, so Bill will post it on club runner and Phyo will provide a link to the report in the Bulletin on Monday before the Club Forum.  Rotarians will need to have user id and password to access the document.

In order to raise sufficient funds to provide breakfast for guests, we will allow Rotarians to buy multiple tickets for 50/50 draw. $2 each or 3 for $5 and there will be a $10 consolation prize for the person that draws the number but fails to draw the Ace of Spades.

Public Relations Report:  Robynne reported that there was tickets available for the fundraiser dinner at All My Friends Brewery and Stillus Distillery over the weekend but none were sold. Lana has volunteered to do the interview at County FM Grapevine to promote the fundraiser dinner.  And if we want to do a live auction at the fundraiser dinner, we can use the services of Hoss (last name unknown).

Literacy:  Norm Dodgson reported that the $1000 for 3 boys hockey was very well received.

Membership:  Roger in Peter's absence reported that we now have 43 members. Goal is 45.  Happy to welcome Cathy and (good)Ted to our club.

Governance:  Ken indicated he has distributed a document detailing Club roles & responsibilities.  Chris Compeau's backup note takers at meetings will be Dawn, Lyn, and Christine.  Photographer will be Dave, Christine, and John Heeringa.  Christmas dinner chair will be Cathy with Lana, Christine, Margo, and Robynne assisting.  Canada Day float chairmen will be Ken and Norm. Gregor will wear the Bee costume at the parade. Ribs Chair will be Gregor with assistance from Colin, Lana, and Yvonne.  Pumpkinfest float and weigh-in will be Howard, Colin, Bill Pennell, Ted Nash, Mike Lattner, and (good)Ted.  Spelling Bee chair will be Dawn, with assist from Yvonne, Norm, Trudy, Cathy, and Gregor as the Bee.

We will have open advertising for all our functions on the digital board. Use of the main hall once per year for free. Use of the Rotary Room quarterly for free. Use of the display in the Lobby.  Use of the main hall once per decade for district conferences.   Motion by Ken, seconded by John Inwood. approved unanimously.

Rotary Song

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
