President's Message

I joined Rotary to make a difference. I am still a Rotarian because I am making a difference.

There is health and beauty all around us; there is love in the ones we hold dear; there is laughter and moments to treasure every day, every year.

Rotary is the most financially sound, largest, most powerful networking service organization. Every minute of every day, Rotary:
  • Feeds someone;
  • Houses someone;
  • Vaccinates someone;
  • Performs surgery on someone;
  • Comforts someone; and
  • Provides clean water to someone...
The Magic of Rotary!

I believe that every one of us can relate to all three of the above statements. It’s what makes us tick as Rotarians, as individuals, and as community leaders.

It has been a very rewarding year for me personally, as your President. I admire our club and have so many people to acknowledge as my team of 45 members.

My Thank You Corner:
This weekly segment begins with my heartfelt thank you to my Board. I will attempt to describe each of them with a one-word comment:
  • President Elect Yvonne -                     Sharp
  • Past-President  Lyn  -                          Wisdom
  • Secretary Chris  -                                Dependable
  • Treasurer Bill Pennell  -                     Determined
  • Marketing/Advertising - Robynne  -   Efficient
  • Youth – Norm  -                                  Unwavering
  • Membership – Peter -                         Steady
  • Governance – Ken -                            Wise
Our 2024/2025 Board has been very cohesive, dependable, intelligent, caring, and we succeeded in accomplishing so much. I want to personally thank each and every one of them, from the bottom of my heart, for their dedication, caring, and never-say-die attitude.

Roger Tessier
President 2024/2025

Rotary meeting minutes May 27, 2025
Notes by Chris Compeau

The meeting was called to order by President Roger at 7:05 am.  34 Rotarians were present (33 in person and 1 on zoom).

Lyn circulated 2 signup sheets for the upcoming Past President’s Dinner – one was indicating attendance and what potluck dish was being brought, the other list was for various roles (ie setup, cleanup etc). She also encouraged those who have not done so to email her their nomination for Rotarian of the Year.

Roger enquired about the health of members: Margo is sick; Kathleen Meaney’s mom is unwell.

The Rotary song was sung. ‘O’ Canada’ was sung. David Hawkins recited an invocation. Breakfast was
served.

Club Forum

Chris provided a review of correspondence messages received and sent.

Bill provided a comprehensive treasurer report for the month of April 2025. In general there was good
revenue over the past month. Mike moved to accept the club financials for April as presented; seconded
by Peter; approved unanimously.

Robynne spoke on her Public Image portfolio. She indicated that our upcoming golf tournament has been advertised on Facebook. She also indicated plans to summarize the past year club activities in a July Wellington Times article.

Peter spoke briefly about club membership. We currently have 45 active members. Glen Harper has attended one meeting so far and is keen on becoming a full member. However Glen is busy working in Picton which will limit his attendance over the summer months.

Yvonne spoke about the upcoming Canada Day Rib event. She thanked members who had volunteered in various capacities for this event.

Norm provided an update on his literacy portfolio. The storybook walk posts have been installed on the beach and he has received positive feedback from local residents regarding the new storybook “Beneath”.

MJ Patel, the PECI student who we sponsored to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Symposium will speak about her experience at a Tuesday meeting in August. Charlotte Price and Connor Borden are the recipients of the $1,000 CML Snider scholarships. Norm reported that in October we will be partnering with the Rotary Club of Picton in another electronic recycling event. After that the Picton Club will take over this initiative. Norm did remind everyone that our club will receive proceeds from the permanent electronic recycling depots which have been established in Sophiasburg and South Marysburgh. Norm also indicated that all D and D booklets have been sold and he anticipates that this will generate @$14,000 for our club. He thanked Dawn and all of the club members who volunteered in support of the various spelling bees.

Ken and Colin provided an update on the sold-out June 12 golf tournament. They are still accepting gifts and hole sponsorships for this event.

Bill provided a brief update on the Dinner Dance plans. A caterer has been chosen. A DJ and auction plans are pending.

Roger reported that fellowship dinners will resume in the fall.

Funding requests

Music at Port Milford requested $1,000 to sponsor their Artist Chamber Music Series. The board recommended donating $1,000 toward this cause; Peter moved to support this initiative; seconded by Robynne; carried unanimously.

The Hub requested $2,000 to develop and support the establishment of 2 home daycares within Wellington. The board recommended donating $2,000 to support this cause. Ken moved to support this initiative; seconded by Howard; carried unanimously.

Roger reported that the board chose to donate $500 towards the Wellington United Church Kids Camp.

Roger reported that the board chose to donate $500 towards the Wellington District Business Association in the production of Canada Day t-shirts.

Business

Yvonne presented her budget for 2025/26. She thanked David Smith, Trudy, Bill and Chris for their input regarding the establishment of a contingency fund. Outstanding financial commitments for the Wellington Arena electronic sign and CML scholarships necessitate a contingency fund of @ $18,500.

This is of course a fluid marker which will decrease as outstanding commitments are paid. William moved to approve the budget for 2025/26; seconded by Trudy; carried unanimously.

Howard is taking orders for Rotary shirts and hats. He will circulate an email.

Ted and Donna Nash are celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary this week. There are no birthdays this week.

The happy toonie can was passed around. Norm’s ticket was drawn for the 50/50 draw – unfortunately the Ace of Spades was not drawn.

The meeting concluded with the 4 way test.

Four Way Test

       Of the things we think, say, and do:

        1.  Is it the TRUTH?
        2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
        3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
             FRIENDSHIPS?
        4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all

Rotary Song

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
