THANK-YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE (PAST) PRESIDENT DAVE ROBINET
WELCOME TO A NEW ROTARY YEAR PRESIDENT HOWARD ZIEDENBERG

President's Message

This year’s lead-up to our new Rotary year was quite different than previous years where June was one of our busiest Club months. We normally enjoyed a wonderful Golf Day and BBQ; followed by a great Past Presidents evening of feasting and camaraderie which included our family and friends;  then we finished the month with all hands on deck readying for the Canada Day parade and Ribfest.

We are now into our fifth month of COVID restrictions, and at our last ZOOM meeting, a few members voiced their hope that we can soon all meet again face-to-face. I heartily agree and look forward to when the Ontario government increases the size of gatherings since we are currently limited to 10 people. In the meantime, I welcome suggestions on how we can start meeting together, even if only a portion of us can be together in the same space.

Past President Dave Robinet mentioned at last week’s Forum meeting that there are two positions on the Board that need to be filled. If we wish to have a well-run healthy Club, then it is important that we maintain a fully functional Board. The two openings are:

    • Director for Public Relations and Literacy which requires your attendance at most Board meetings but there is a lot of flexibility in this role, and a key element of the Literacy portfolio already has the Spelling Bee team.

    • President Elect which leads to the presidency for 2021-2022. This is a three-year commitment, with Board meetings, but the busy year is during the actual presidency.

    • If you would like more information on these openings, then feel free to approach me, or Past President Dave Robinet.

I look forward to working with everyone to make this another great Wellington Rotary year and thank you all in advance for your support and energies!

President Howard Ziedenberg

Last Week:
Club Forum

President Dave Robinet called the Zoom video conferencing meeting to order at 7:07 a.m. with 27 Rotarians present and accounted for.

  1. Treasurer's report was presented by Trudy Brown and approved by the Club.
  2. Diners & Duffers Books: Ted Nash reported that there are about 75 books remaining that are not yet allocated.  Trudy Brown  reported that she has received funds from sales but does not have a count of exactly how many books have been sold.  She will report a more comprehensive number next month.
  3. Howard Ziedenberg reported that 2 students have been awarded the CML scholarship for this year.
  4. Membership report was provided by Parker Gallant.
  5. Barry Davidson provided an update of the Annual Fundraiser Dinner planning.  We will not have an actual event due to the COVID restrictions, but we are looking into holding an online auction.
  6. Mike Lattner provided an update on the Rotary wine.  The White wine at Lacey Estates is coming down to the last few cases. We need to put a push on it.  The Red wine at Domaine Darrius has been bottled and will go on sale shortly. The initial tastings indicate the wine will be very good, and should sell briskly at $40 per bottle.
  7. Barry Davidson presented the proposed Rotary Memorial Garden project to be undertaken near the Millennium Trail Kiosk in Wellington. Phyo will distribute a copy of the proposed plan to all members.  Members can approve the plans by next week.
  8. President Dave provided the resolutions of the Board meeting from Monday, and the Club voted on the following:
    1. Board approved a donation of $500 to the Community Care for Seniors, funds to be provided from the general account.
    2. Board recommended to the Club, and the Club unanimously approved a donation of $750 to County Kids Read, funds to be provided from the general account.
    3. The Club approved passage of amendment to Article 17 of the Club's bylaws relating to email notifications, moved by Howard, seconded by Tim, all in favour, none opposed, none abstained.
  9. Past President's award proceedings:
    1. Paul Harris Fellowships were awarded to Charles Lacey, Pierre LeBrun, Sharon Campbelll, David Smith, Barry Davidson for their contributions to Rotary International through the Club's donations on their behalf over the years.
    2. Double Paul Harris Fellowship (second jewel in the Pin) was awarded to Howard Ziedenberg and Ted Nash.
    3. President Dave's wife, Mary Robinet, was thanked for her support and participation during Dave's presidency during the year.
    4. President Dave provided a brief closing speech for his year.
    5. Incoming President Howard provided a brief innaugural speech.
    6. Rotarian of the Year honours were awarded to David Robinet & Phyo Kyi for their service above self for the Rotary year 2019-2020.

Rotary Song Lyrics:

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1.  Is it the TRUTH?
2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
     FRIENDSHIPS?
4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
