President's Message
Being in Edmonton for 10 days allowed me to experience last week’s meeting on Zoom. Gregor’s classification talk was informative, humorous, and to-the-point. Some of our best presentations are classification talks and Gregor did not disappoint.
This Rotary year’s Presidents’ Walk will be held in Newmarket on Saturday, October 6th. All monies donated go to the Rotary Foundation and help Rotary do all the good things we do worldwide. We have a history of doing our own walk and I suggest we keep that tradition. More to follow.
A Rotary Message:
For most of us in Rotary, what matters most is our personal club experience. When I joined Rotary in Whitby, my club made me feel like I belonged. I looked forward to the meetings, the fundraising events, and the fellowship. To me, this sense of meaning and belonging defines Rotary. As President, I feel a commitment to make you all feel wanted, appreciated, and a valued part of the Rotary family. Thank you for being a valued member and making Rotary part of your life.
Roger Tessier
President, 2024/2025
On second thought:
Whoever said “out of sight, out of mind” never had a spider disappear in their bed.
The meeting was called to order by Past President Ken at 7:08 am. 31 Rotarians were present with 1 guest (Ted Nash introduced his friend Ted Hannigan who was attending as a guest).
Ken provided a rotary moment that influenced his decision to join the Wellington Rotary Club. He had been a Rotarian in Ancaster for 18 years and really didn’t feel the need to join another Rotary group. However one day he stopped by the bottle depot where he met Dave Robinet and Phyo - these two looked like they were having fun. Furthermore Ken was amazed the more he learned of the operation of the bottle depot. He was drawn to join the Wellington Rotary given the fact that this club consistently exceeds fundraising expectations.
‘O’ Canada’ was sung. David Hawkins recited an invocation. Breakfast was served.
Ken introduced Gregor Stuart as a relatively new Rotary member who is providing his classification presentation. Gregor was born and raised in St. John, New Brunswick. He studied computer science at UNB. He moved to Toronto in 1986 where he ultimately spent the majority of his professional career. He worked as a programmer for Facelle, Chrysler and Loblaw. At Loblaw an opportunity arose in logistics (retail supply chain) which Gregor took. He subsequently worked for a variety of major companies such as Canadian Tire, Hudsons Bay, Zellers, and Lowes in retail supply chain management. In 2015 he relocated from Toronto to Montreal. He noted that the Covid pandemic provided unique challenges to the supply chain sector.
Gregor retired to PEC with his wife in 2021. He is an avid runner and cyclist. When reflecting on why he joined Rotary Gregor gave several reasons. He met Barry Davidson while working on the PEC trails committee. He is a believer in ‘doing’ rather than simply writing a cheque – the concept of sweat equity appeals to him. He has time, energy, organizational skills and enjoys making things better for those around him. On a personal note, Gregor’s parents both died from cancer at relatively young ages so fundraising efforts for cancer care causes strongly resonates with him.
Mary thanked Gregor for his presentation and welcomed him to the club.
Business
Christine reported that our club won the annual Brighton karaoke competition. She thanked all of the participants for their support and enthusiasm. Ken thanked Christine for her leadership.
Howard announced that there will be a committee meeting for the upcoming memorial garden event immediately following this morning’s meeting.
Shawn’s ticket was drawn for the 50/50 draw – despite a strong attempt he failed to pull the ace of spades.

David Smith Charitable Golf Series
David Smith challenges all Wellington Rotarians (or Friends of Rotary) to a game of golf. If you win, he will donate $100 to a charitable cause through Wellington Rotary Foundation. If he wins, you will donate the same.
I understand all the rules of golf (and some made up by David) apply, and is strictly enforced!
Last Tuesday, Howard challenged David, and Mike and Colin joined them... Rumour has it that David will be bringing a C note to the Rotary meeting this Tuesday.
Looks like a good way to promote fellowship in the club as well as be charitable at the same time! Who will challenge David next?

Rotary Song
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
