Notes from Club Forum on June 30, 2026

President Yvonne opened the meting at 7:05 with 33 members present plus 2 on Zoom.

Roger reflected on last week’s Past President’s night and thanked all members of the committee for their work setting up, decorating and cleaning up, making it a wonderful evening for everyone attending.

On behalf of the club, Yvonne expressed her condolences to Peter on the death of his wife Josephine on June 24th. There will be a service in their long-time home of Smiths Falls on July 8 and a Celebration of Life here in Wellington at a later date.

Yvonne reported that our club won TWO District awards at the recent year-end District Changeover which Roger attended. We won the Club Bulletin Award, for which Yvonne thanked Lois and me - but neglected to mention herself, for her outstanding President’s Messages each week. We also won the Environmental Action Award for our Bottle Depot operation, for which Yvonne had submitted a nomination. She has also submitted a nomination to the County for a Civic Recognition Award in the Environmental category.

Board Reports:

Secretary Lyn detailed the correspondence/messages received and sent during the month.

Treasurer Bill went through the financial statement for the month of May.

William moved acceptance of the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Kim; motion carried.

The board recommended that the proceeds of the recent Maple Syrup campaign be disbursed. Peter moved that the Club direct the Foundation to donate funds to the Storehouse Foodbank and to the PECMH Foundation Back the Build campaign; seconded by Roger; motion carried.

Policy and Administration – Director Phyo advised that a review of the club’s bylaws is underway. Among the items under consideration for inclusion are: addition of the position of Club Security Officer, as approved by the club last month, setting out term expectations for board positions, and clarifying the role of the Foundation relative to the Club. Phyo stressed that this is a process and any proposed changes will come back to the club for review and approval.

Fundraising – Pres Elect Chris ran through the well-organized schedule for Canada Day tomorrow. The next major fundraising event will be our Online Auction, which we are proposing to piggyback on the second annual Musical Fundraiser at the Regent Theatre on September 5th in support of the county’s foodbanks. Administration of last year’s inaugural event was provided by the Storehouse Foodbank, with reimbursement from the Button Fund. Chris proposed that RCofW provide similar administration for this year’s event.

William M moved that we facilitate the Musical Fundraiser at the Regent Theatre by accepting reimbursement from the Button Fund for cheques issued from the club’s General Account to two bands and the Regent Theatre; seconded by Liz; motion carried.

Public Image – Director Liz reported on the items she posted to FB, the articles and ads in the Times in June and what is coming up in July. Liz asked that anyone who has an old D & D book, please bring in for

use in the display case. Yvonne noted that Tim represented our club at the recent graduation ceremony at PECI.

Membership = Director Peter noted that so far only 32 members have paid their annual dues for 2026-27, which are due today. Yvonne indicated the 11 people who have not yet paid should be contacted for an expression of clear intent, as we will be charged $254 by District for each name still on our voter rolls as of July 1.

Club Administration –

· Yvonne displayed a picture of an overflowing Percy at the beach. The County has confirmed that it will deal with Percy during the summer but does not have the staff to deal with it outside of the summer months. We will need an alternative in the fall.

· Fellowship Committee - Roger confirmed he will kick off the next round of Fellowship Dinners in September, but plans to introduce a “twist” to keep it fresh. Details to follow. He will also follow up regarding the Dinner Theatre in Cobourg on November 1st, for which he has reserved 24 seats. Pierre has offered his place for a Fellowship BBQ/Pool Party again this year (Yay!) on either Wednesday July 29 or Wednesday August 12. The suggestion was made to plan on the first date and keep the second date open as a rain date.

· Health and Wellness Committee – next lecture, on Scamming, is on Thursday July 16. Yvonne asked Ken if he would he willing to share his experience and he agreed.

Funding Requests:

Yvonne reported that the board approved a $500 donation to Emma-Leigh Johnson for her Circle of C’s Indigenous Youth Project (Culture, Community, Connection.)

Lana moved that the Club direct the Foundation to donate $1500 to Music at Port Milford; seconded by Howard; motion carried.

Howard moved that the Club direct the Foundation to donate $1200 to ShelterBox for emergency aid in the aftermath of the Venezuela earthquakes; seconded by Mike; motion carried.

Bottle Depot – Yvonne showcased the top Bottle Depot volunteers for the 2025-26 Rotary Year: Geoff, in third place with 33 shifts; FOR Lari, in second place with 34 shifts; and in first place, with an impressive 42 shifts, our incoming President-Elect, Gregor. In total, our Friends of Rotary covered 40% of the shifts this past year. We really couldn’t do it without them! Thank you so much!

Birthdays – John He has a new grandson – congratulations John! Three Rotarians have birthdays this week - Ted H on July 1, Ken on July 3 and Phyo on July 6

Anniversaries – Trudy and Phyo, celebrating twelve years of marital bliss on July 2

50/50 Draw – John Ha had his number drawn and he picked a black Ace - but it wasn’t a spade
