President's Message

We are heading back to the Legion this Tuesday for our Club’s meeting. After the wonderful and greatly appreciated experience of our Club’s Forum session in Susanne and Parker’s backyard, it is so nice to take another (but careful) step towards normalcy. Many thanks to Susanne and Parker for hosting us.

Margo and I have checked out the arrangements at the Legion. The seating and tables have been positioned for safe distancing, and we’ll be simultaneously hosting a ZOOM broadcast for those that are unable to attend in person.

I have posted the Club Roles and Primes document on ClubRunner. I think you’ll find it a very useful reference when looking for the right contact within the Club.

I would like to congratulate David Smith on the success of his Op-ed in the July 8th edition of the Wellington Times. So far, around $4,000 has come into our Hospital Foundation account and below are the verbatim messages included with cheques:

  • "Please find enclosed my cheque in the amount of $300, representing my donation to the PECMH “New Build”.  Thank you Rotary for taking on this most worthwhile project.  The monies could not be better utilized."

  • "Enclosed is a cheque for the $300 I received from the OAS and would like to donate it to the Hospital Fund.  Real good idea."

  • "I sincerely hope this helps your Rotary Club meet your target of helping to build our new hospital.  The idea I read in the Wellington Times spurred my willingness to give."

In closing, our AG, Brenda Hellyer called me this past week to go over some District 7070 business. Brenda is looking to arrange a joint session of the Wellington and Belleville clubs that our District Governor Mark Chipman would attend by ZOOM. The meeting is to be held some time before the end of August and it could be an evening event – I need to get a sense from the Club on how you feel about attending outside our normal schedule. I’m thinking we could treat it as a special event. Brenda also mentioned that Mark has a supply of this year’s Rotary pins, and once she obtains them from Mark, she’ll distribute them to the clubs in her area.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1.  Is it the TRUTH?
2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
     FRIENDSHIPS?
4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
