President's Message
Occasionally, as I sit down to write the President’s message for the weekly bulletin, my mind is a blank. Some weeks, the topic is obvious because of something that has just happened or is about to happen. Then, it’s easy. But when I’m in one of those “blank” spaces, I go exploring. The website of Rotary International is one of my favourite places to go for inspiration.
This week, what I found is Rotary Fellowships. When I think of a Fellowship, I first think of a short-term, funded professional or academic development opportunity. (Or, second, of Tolkien’s “Fellowship of the Ring”.)
But that is not what Rotary Fellowship is about. Per the RI website, “Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession, and enhance your Rotary experience.”
In fact, there are currently over 100 such groups and membership is open to any interested Rotarian anywhere in the world. The range of “passions” is amazing. Some are straightforward – Birdwatching (387 members), Chess (305 members), Military Veterans (339 members), Public Health (483 members), Yachting (3685 members). Some, are a little more “out there” – how about the Rotary Fellowship of Pickleball Players (423 members), or the Rotary Fellowship of Tea Lovers (3.5K members), or the Rotary Fellowship of Kites (692 members).
Here is a link to the full list of Rotary Fellowships - https://www.rotary.org/en/our-programs/more-fellowships – you may find one that is focused on your personal passion.
Happy Family Day!

Last Week: Barry Davidson (Home Sharing)
Meeting Notes by ........ February 13, 2024
Barry Davidson presented to the club an update on the Home Sharing initiative that is beginning to brew in collaboration with various other organizations such as the PEC Affordable Housing, the County Foundation, Queen's University, etc..
Unfortunately, due to a mix up in transitioning editors for this newsletter for this week, we did not receive the meeting notes from last week in time for this publication. It will be published at a later date.
Club Business from February 06, 2024
David MacKinnon gave an encouraging update to the Nurse-Practitioner project. The government’s budget has been increased to $110 million and the description of the medical strategy now includes nurse-practitioners as part of the solution. He described a meeting with other County organizations as being very supportive: Wellington Community Association, the County Foundation, the doctors’ Group and Community Care for Seniors.
Chris followed with advice that a description of the Blue Zone can be found free-of-charge on Ted Talks.
Lyn reviewed preparation for Family Day, February 19, that is coming together nicely.
Dawn advised that the Adult Spelling Bee will be held in Trenton, April 15. She is encouraging members who love to spell to form our team and win the trophy. Last year we were second. As well, Dawn said, there are five County schools holding their Spelling Bees.
Yvonne reminded members to sell maple syrup. We have 500 bottles (42 cases) to go.
Peter’s number was drawn for the 50:50, but the ace of spades was not drawn for him.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and better
FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all
concerned?

Rotary Song
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
