President's Message

Life is precious and we may think we are invincible.

This weekend was a good warning to all of us with what happened to Bill Mitchell. The majority of us are either in that range or getting closer to the time in our lives where we are more susceptible to things happening to us health wise. Live each day for a day and make the best of each and every one of them.

I understand that it was very busy at the bottle depot yesterday and again. Kim Lee came across the road to the rescue to assist with the backlog and Lawrence came in early for his shift which also helped.

I called the house for Phyo the other day (Wednesday) and Trudy advised me that Phyo was at the bottle depot as Kim Lee had called him asking for some help.  It seems a number of people just dropped their empties off and left them outside the building, likely expecting us to open on Wednesday as we have in the past.  I understand that it took the two of them over half hour to clear the empties that had been left there.

It is one thing that we will have to discuss and decide  on a date that we should open for Wednesday’s on a regular basis.

Cherish each day and live it to the fullest.

Healing with Horses

Meeting (via Zoom video conference)  called to order by President Dave Robinet at 7:07 a.m.  26 Rotarians plus two guest speakers present and accounted for.

Healing for Horses operates a stable and riding venue where horses are used to provide therapy for people with mental and emotional challenges.  Healing for Horses is unique in offering a full package. In addition to horses, they have small animals like cats and goats, roosters, bunnies, and pigs.  Therepy horses are proven to help sooth and calm people. Their customers range from toddlers to seniors.

During these COVID-19 crisis, anxiety and depression issues have increased, and people are unable to get the help they need.  But once the lockdown is lifted, demand will be there for the therepy horses.  Unfortunately, Healing for Horses is not allowed to be opened during this lockdown, thus not being able to help fulfill the need, but also adversely impacting revenues.

Healing for Horses provides therapy for about 300 clients per year, plus about 20-25 seniors per week.

Their typical venues for revenues, such as Maple in the County and the County grant for seniors were cancelled, losing fundraising opportunities to the tune of about $16,000.  They have 70 animals to feed. For example, monthly cost to support the horses with hay, vet, and ferrier amounts to about $2,000.   So, they are requesting a donation from the Rotary to help support the horses for a month while they wait out the lockdown.  People will need their therapy horses to treat the increased anxiety and depressions from the lockdown once the restrictions are lifted.

Thank-You David Hepburn & Many Happy Returns

David Hepburn presents a cheque for $400 to Past President Mike Lattner, chair of Wellington Rotary's bottle returns depot operations, as a donation to the new PEC hospital building fund.  During the COVID-19 physical distancing lockdowns, many residents of the County were unable to bring their bottle returns for re-use/recycle and collect their deposit refund. David and Many Happy Returns collected the bottles from curb-sides and donated them to the Rotary's bottle returns depot.

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1.  Is it the TRUTH?
2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
     FRIENDSHIPS?
4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
