Last Tuesday evening, we honoured our “Friends of Rotary” with a dinner, supplied by our Rotary members. The evening was full of discussions, laughter, and presentations. Kudos to Christine and her committee for an amazing evening.
Our Friends of Rotary assist us in many ways, but none as important as the labour they provide at the bottle depot. From July until November, the total shifts required were an even 300 (2-hour shifts). Our Friends of Rotary volunteered 99 shifts, or exactly 1/3 of all shifts, led by Lari Langford and Alex Lacher with 16 shifts each. Wow! Thank you just simply doesn’t seem enough.
Talking of volunteerism, we sometimes forget that all Rotarians are volunteers. We should never be critical of a member unless of course in jest. Let’s always remember the 4-way Test. We have many of our members who volunteer freely of their time to assist the food bank, Community Care, homelessness, fundraisers, outreach programs, to name a few.
Deep down, Rotarians are amazing people; always helping others locally and internationally. We sometimes take for grant the monetary donations, the enormous time allocated to greater causes. Well done Rotarians…great work. We are all assisting in creating a better world for those in need and for future generations.
