Our scheduled speaker was ill and unable to join us so we utilized the time for discussion of Club business.
We learned that Reg Gemmell has been in Picton hospital since last Monday with low hemoglobin and is receiving transfusions; he is able to receive visitors and we all wish him a speedy recovery.
Dave M introduced his guest, Ken Robinson, who moved to the County 6 months ago. He retired as Chief of Police in Hamilton, is a past president of the Ancaster Rotary Club and is interested in becoming a member of our club.
Tim has reached out to the President of a Rotary Club in the Canberra area, but has not yet heard back as they are busy fighting fires.
According to Dave R there are still a couple of holes in the schedule for Family Day. He is looking for 2 members to support Aaron Miller from the OPP in doing handprint art.
Liz shared the Family Day schedule which includes: free public skating, free reading, free books, fire prevention games, Lions Club photo booth, pine cone bird feeders, a magic stage show, free soup lunch and hot chocolate.
Lyn and Karen are registered to attend a Rotary Grant Proposal Writing Workshop on Feb 29.
Barry advised that May 5 is the tentative date for a tour of the Trenton Recycling Centre.
Dave M provided an update on how Quinte Health is positioned to deal with the coronavirus should a case arise.
Colin provided an update re the golf tournament. Both Barcovan and Timber Ridge are able to do 9 holes but we wouldn’t be able to do our own food there. Rather than coming back to the Legion for dinner after golf, Lana suggested that he check on the cost of dinner at the course.
Karen advised Sunday March 29 is the date for the Chapters “event” in support of the Spelling Bee. Karen also raised the idea of teaching a cursive writing class at the school during lunchtime, since it is no longer part of the curriculum but some students may want to learn.
Club members modeled their new Rotary toques. Barry will be putting in a second order if anyone else wants to order one.
