 President’s Message:

Good morning, fellow Rotarians.

Another month on our Rotary calendar is behind us. October was certainly a busy one...Fellowship Dinners, Dinner/Dance, Pumpkinfest, District Conference to name a few. Hang onto your hats; it looks like November is going to be just as active.

Rotary’s Theme for November is “Rotary Foundation Month.” This month will highlight the work of the Rotary Foundation, the charitable arm of Rotary International that encourages support to its projects that focus on areas like disease prevention, clean water, basic education, and economic development.

Since the Foundation was founded more than 100 years ago, it has spent more than $4 BILLION on life-changing, sustainable projects. What impact can one donation have? For as little as .60¢, a child can be protected from polio; $50 can provide clean water to fight waterborne illness; $500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.

November is a month dedicated to celebrating and supporting the Rotary Foundation. It is so important because it raises awareness to the Foundation’s global initiatives and encourages financial contributions to fund projects worldwide.

Also to be noted is that any contribution is invested over a 3-year period, and the interest earned allows the foundation to be sustainable. Our foundation and its operation have become a template for all new worldwide foundations to follow. Be proud. Our foundation has been recognized worldwide as a leader in this field.

Thought for the week. image

By mutual confidence and mutual aid, great deeds are done.

On Second Thought:

Overheard at a coffee shop: My brain has so many open tabs that I am becoming a limited edition, and by the way, I had my patience tested and I’m negative.

On October 18th the Rotary Club of Wellington welcomed John Hatch as a new member. We look forward to John's enrichment of our Club

Last Week:  Club Forum

Rotary meeting minutes October 28, 2025
Notes by: Lyn McGowan

President Yvonne called the meeting to order at 7:07 with 34 members present and one on Zoom.  She recapped the experience of the 6 people who attended this past weekend’s District Conference, supported by photos and video – presentations, workshops, even a polar plunge. Next year’s conference is October 23-25 in North York. She noted that we have money in the budget to sponsor club members who wish to attend, up to $500 per person, depending on how many choose to go.

Our newest member, John Hatch, was officially inducted into the club. Welcome, John!

Club Forum

Secretary Lyn detailed correspondence received and sent.

Treasurer Bill went through the Treasurer’s Report for the month of September year to date. Trudy moved that the Financial Statement for September be accepted; seconded by Tim; motion carried.

Pres-Elect Chris provided a report on the Fundraising portfolio. Bill P. reported that net proceeds from the Dinner/Dance/auction exceeded budget. Yvonne congratulated Bill and the entire team for another job well done, and noted we will need a new champion for next year’s event, whatever that may be. The top volunteers at the Bottle Depot for September were recognized – Gregor in top spot, Geoff in second, with third place shared by John I, Roger and FOR Alex. Chris reported that the final Electronic Recycling event on the Oct 26th went well, thanks to our team – Trudy, Gregor, Howard, Tim and Ken - who worked in fellowship with a team of Picton Rotarians. Mary noted that the first letters have been sent out to sponsors about next year’s D & D books.

Trudy inquired about an article in the local paper about Wellington Rotary Beach. Yvonne had not seen the article itself but assured us that the County has recognized our club’s ongoing interest in the Wellington Beach and consulted with us earlier in the year. A question was raised about the track at CML Snyder, which is in need of repair/resurfacing. Lana had already been asked, in a personal capacity not as a Rotarian, to lead a fundraising effort.

Yvonne gave the report on the Public Image portfolio. Two ads in the Times for the ER event, for which Corey gave us a 2 for 1 special price. Also advertised on the electronic sign at the WDCC. The Rotary display case at the WDCC has been updated and the “thank you” ad for the Dinner/Dance/Auction will be in the Times on Oct. 29.

Peter reported on the Membership Portfolio, that Robynne will be leaving the club at the end of December and he has not been able to reach Kathleen to ascertain her intentions.

PE Chris reported on the slate of nominees for next year’s Board of Directors. All current board members are prepared to continue in their current roles, with the exception of PP Roger who will leave the board, Yvonne will move to PP and Chris will take over as Pres. Gregor has agreed to let his name stand for Pres Elect. The election will take place at Club Forum in November. Any members wishing to put their names forward for one of the positions are encouraged to do so by advising Chris or, in his absence, Roger. Although all board members are willing to serve for another year, they are also prepared to step aside to make room for “new blood”. We still need a Breakfast Committee chair for next year.

PP Roger reported that 5 Fellowship Dinners have taken place to date. In total, there are 12 hosts and 30 club members involved. New member John Hatch and his wife have been invited to attend the last dinner of this round. Christine reported there are now 16 FOR’s planning to attend the FOR Event on Nov 18. Yvonne asked that it be confirmed with Margo or Geoff that the room at WOTL has been reserved for the Christmas party on Dec 16. Dave M reported there will be a H & W presentation on Food Security in PEC by Carson Arthur on Nov 17 at 7:30 in the Rotary Room at the WDCC. Yvonne reminded us there will be no morning meetings on Nov 18 and Dec16 due to Rotary events on those evenings. There will be a morning meeting on Dec 23 but no meeting on Dec 30.

Funding Requests

A funding request by the 851st Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets was deferred, pending a presentation.

Howard moved that $1200 be donated to continue supporting two students in the Atorkor Graduate Program; seconded by Kim; motion carried.

Pres Yvonne will be away for the month of November and PP Roger will fill in.

50/50 Draw - John He’s ticket was drawn but he did not pick the Ace of Spades. Down to 6 cards left, the excitement continues to build!
