President's Message

Times are changing and we are right in the middle of it. I hope that everyone is doing their part in trying to keep this virus under control and out of the County and your homes.  If you are just back from vacation please stay in your home for 14 days, do not go out. Call on Rotarians, friends & neighbours to pick up and drop off your needs and leave them on your porch.

We want everyone to be safe and healthy. I can’t stress enough, only way that we can do it is to listen to what is being said and stay at home, if you do not need to go out.

It is because of the health risks, that we have had to make a change temporarily, in the way that we conduct business and in particular how we hold our meetings.

I know that this is causing stress to some who do not have laptops or home internet, or are having issues connecting the Zoom meeting apt. It means that some of our members may not be able to take part in the meetings that we are about to conduct.

Should you be one of the ones that has a computer or internet issue, you may be able to join our on line meetings via telephone, but the video conference platform we are using does not have a local calling number for our area, so it does mean that you will possibly have to pay for long distance charges, if you do not have a long distance calling package.

One other possibility is to go to another members home and sit a distance apart, but that is something that I wouldn’t recommend.

One of my boys works for Ontario Power Generation. He himself is having to work one day a week from home so that he can do on line training to avoid group gatherings. With him living in the country he too has some internet issues and needs to find a way to deal with it.

Keeping the health crises in mind, we have to do what we can to keep everyone in the club informed and involved, while doing what is best for each of us to be safe and healthy.

I look forward to having our morning meeting on Tuesday via video conference.

President Dave Robinet

Last Week:  No Meeting

Our regularly scheduled Tuesday breakfast meeting was cancelled last week due to the social distancing requirements imposed by the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

However, Rotary International was able to come up with a 20% discount offer from a video conferencing platform called ZOOM, which allows us to meet visually on-line.   Last Tuesday, our Board of Directors and a few sub-committee chairpersons conducted a dry-run of how we might be able to use this tool to keep in touch with each other and continue club business.  As a result, we will be holding our Board Meeting on Monday afternoon, and we will endeavour to convene our Club Forum meeting on Tuesday at 8 a.m. using this platform. An email invite to this video conference meeting should now be in each Rotarian's inbox. We will  subsequently evaluate the effectiveness of these sessions and make any necessary adjustments.   As President Dave Robinet has indicated in his message here, we apologize to any member who are not able to join because of technical difficulties.  We will endeavour to keep you in the loop  via the regular means of email and  telephone.  We will keep detailed minutes of any motions or resolutions and allow you to provide input via email afterwards.

On another note, our "Service Above Self" motto compels us to help our neighbours, friends and community during this social isolation and physical distancing period. To that end, Rotarian Barry Davidson has worked with community leaders to set up a help line for anyone in the County that needs assistance.  The phone number is 613-399-3708 or email wellingtonhelpline@gmail.com. Barry has recruited various Rotarians to help in this effort, and if you would like to volunteer, please contact Barry.

Rotary Song Lyrics:

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1.  Is it the TRUTH?
2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
     FRIENDSHIPS?
4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
