President's Message
First, a big ‘Thank You’ to Shawn and Julie for hosting our Fellowship Gathering at their lovely home/boutique hotel this past Thursday afternoon. What a wonderful spot they’ve created! It feels like a little slice of Tuscany has been magically transported to Prince Edward County. I have the feeling that next year they’ll have a parade of Rotarian family and friends clamoring for a room.
In this post-pandemic era it felt wonderful to be able to gather socially with Rotary friends and spouses, not with a task to accomplish but just to hang out together. And the weather cooperated. I look forward to seeing what our Fellowship Committee comes up with next.

Rotary Meeting Notes September 26, 2023
Attendance: 27 in-person, and 3 on Zoom
Health of Members:
Peter Campbell reported that Geoff Telling in good condition, but typically difficulty attending early morning meetings
Today’s meeting was Club Forum, so Pres. Lyn reported the outcome from the Board meeting:
Correspondence:
Letter from Heather O’Connor, author of current title at Storybook Walk, with thanks
Thank-you card from kids from Rotary’s sponsorship of summer camp
Treasurer’s Report
Yvonne provided treasurer’s report via zoom, highlighting actual vs budget for bottle depot, fundraiser dinner, etc
Community appreciation day cost $4316 which is less than budgeted $5000
Net revenue at bottle depot down about $3000 Year-over-Year comparison
Phyo moved to approve the treasurer’s report, seconded by Mike Lattner, all in favour
Policy & Administration
No formal report on signage at Wellington & District Comm Centre but Lyn talked with Lisa Lindsay to keep monitoring. Will bring proposed plans to a vote when County is ready
No new info from food bank location search
Fundraiser dinner/dance was successful. about 88 auction items, $11,000 in proceeds for items @53% of face value. achieved 76% of goal. Net proceeds for overall event was about $15,000
Communications
Thank-you advertisement published in Times for fundraiser dinner
Literacy
Storybook walk will be covered up for winter. Next year’s book will be determined in collaboration with the library
Working to increase subscribers for free reading program within local schools
Diners & Duffers OK
Membership
New member application from Mary Camp was approved by the board. Motion to approve by the members will go out by email, and members have 1 week to indicate any reservations about the motion.
Breakfast Committee:
Cost of current breakfast sandwich from Tim’s contained at $5/person and includes Yogurt
Fellowship:
Norm announced fellowship event at Shawn & Julie’s Villa de Casa this thursday. About 40 people expected
Shawn reminded people to bring their own lawn chairs. their pot luck items and BYOB
Modernizing Rotary morning habituals:
Pres. Lyn polled 10 different Rotary Clubs in the District to understand what they do. Re: Rotary Song, O’Canada, Toast to the King & Canada, Rotary Grace. Only Brighton sings everything but by a good singer. No other club sings Rotary Song. Most still sing O’Canada
Pres. Lyn asked for motion to stop singing Rotary Song. John Inwood & David Hawkins presented reasons to continue Rotary song to retain essence of Rotary tradition. Trudy advocated, if singing Rotary Song seems awkward to guests that we sing only at Club Forum meetings.
Motion was made to replace the Rotary Song and try something new with some form of Rotary related narrative or discussion. All in favour, 2 opposed, none abstained.
Rotary Grace will continue.
Rotary Foundation Walk:
District President's walk will be on October 15 in Markham.
Instead of that, we will do our own local walk, and will pass a pledge sheet for donations to Rotary Foundation.
Donations over $20 will be tax receipt eligible from Rotary Foundation Canada
Margo will host after walk.
Pumpkinfest:
Weighing teams defined. Mike Lattner will be point person for Rotary
Margo will lead the parade float decoration team. Looking for volunteers
We can use Shawn’s truck to tow the float but need someone to drive it.
Accessibility Mat
District Grant application for accessibility mat possible, since 4 other clubs are interested in supporting the initiative.
Health & Wellness Committee:
Decision from the Province for our application to extend the Belleville NP clinic in Wellington will be made sometime by November
No location of the clinic has been determined but will be addressed if approved
Future fundraising targets:
Peter Campbell solicited hep for Poppy Campaign for the Legion
