President's Message

Club updates resulting from the current Provincial month-long “emergency brake” shutdown which became effective, Saturday, April 3rd:
  • Our Bottles Depot remains open, but we may need to advise the public that we are continuing to operate since the Saturday shift saw reduced customer traffic.
  • For the month of April, Club meetings will be by ZOOM only since we are restricted from meeting at the Legion.
  • To be rescheduled: April 24 Beach Clean-up: the shutdown requires us to postpone our Rotary Beach Cleanup until May. The Beach Committee will determine the new date once it becomes clear as to how the restrictions will be eased off.
Thank you to all the members who have volunteered to help at the Picton vaccination centre for this round. Below are the Rotary crew who worked the April 1st shift:

  Tim
  John

  Trudy
Howard

   Volunteers Mar 31-April 6 are:

Ted & Donna, Barry & Liz, Tim,
Trudy & Phyo, John I, Howard,
   Jacques, and Ken.

Through a donation of $1200, our Club has successfully arranged for a Shelter Box to be in place for the District Conference starting June 25th.

Last Week:
Club Forum

The Club forum was switched to all on-line at the last minute due to new Covid restrictions (HPEH Class Order). It opened (24 present, 3 more joined during the meeting) with a discussion of the latest restrictions affecting the County & the Club. President Howard reported on the previous Board Meeting (Mon 29th) including appreciation from the Wellington Storehouse Food Bank and an up-date on scholarship awards.

Trudy’s Treasurer’s Report included information on the Returns Depot’s profits (120% over budget and currently @ $41,000) and other fundraising efforts, which will bring the Club’s Hospital commitment within reach very soon. Also, the Club’s financial commitments to R.I., the District and insurance premiums have not recently been met from membership dues as was previously the case and the Club is asked to consider an increase.

Secretary Lyn reported on the Club’s participation in the HPE Learning Foundation Grant scheme in partnership with the Quinte Sunrise Club. She will continue to facilitate our Club’s participation in such initiatives at the District level.

Dave R updated the Club on the efforts of the Fundraising Committee.

A date will be sought for the dedication of the Rotary Memorial Garden as soon as circumstances allow.

The Board approved Shawn Ellis’s membership application.   Lyn will send out an email to all members, who will have one week to provide feedback.

Parker’s role regarding membership will, in future, be part of the Immediate Past President’s responsibilities.

Thanks went to Lyn and now Linda for continuing to process potential grants that the Club can take advantage of.

Under New Initiatives, Phyo referred to the potential project for a fitness park idea at the “Field of Dreams”  opposite the Wellington & District centre.  The team has had a meeting with Lisa Lindsay from the County and we are awaiting indication from them as to feasibility.

Certificates of Appreciation will be awarded to Bob & Paul Greer, Kimball Lacey plus Kinsip & Nyman Farms for their respective contributions to our fundraising and community efforts.

The Disrict Conference will take place virtually on June 25 & 26. A proposal made to support a Shelter Box fundraiser to the amount of $1200 was carried.

David S explained, in detail, discussions with the “Back the Build” campaign for the new hospital regarding aligning the disbursement of the next $100,000 from the Club with the latest timelines, i.e. not before January 2022. After some good news from David M that new ICU beds were in progress at Belleville and that the cost of Covid had been factored into the long-term financial planning that should not negatively impact the constuction of the hospital in Picton, the Club voted to support the change.

$500 will be contributed to “Lebanon Strong”.

The status of the request for funds from Kate’s Rest was explained and further information will be sought before any decision.

Bill’s outstanding bottle needs for the current week were met.

Volunteers were sought and found to assist with Covid vaccination at the Picton Community Centre.

Linda was congratulated on her birthday.

The meeting closed in the usual manner at 8.32.

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
        1.  Is it the TRUTH?
        2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
        3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
             FRIENDSHIPS?
        4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
