Participating in a project to provide clean water for 1500 families in 31 villages with NGO, Pure Water for the World.

The Rotary Club of Wellington is helping to fund a clean water project in the district of El Paraiso, Honduras, in Central America.  The Honduras project is a new 3 ½ year project being done in conjunction with Pure Water for the World, a non-governmental agency specializing  in clean water projects. This project provides hygiene education and techniques, clean water, and sanitation to over 1500 families in 31 villages. This will be accomplished by providing BioSand water filters in each home, latrines in the villages, hygiene and sanitation workshops and training of community water boards, and hygiene committees. The expected result of the project will be a decrease in sickness and death due to infectious waterborne and hygiene related diseases, ultimately leading to more productive, healthier lives. The project will be of greatest benefit to the children and women of the communities and it is also supported by UNICEF, other Rotary clubs, and private donations.
